La Ruta Maya Foundation held a series of conferences as part of the exhibition MAYA WATER WORLD at the Training Center of the Spanish Cooperation in Antigua Guatemala, last October 30, 2015.

The event hosted a variety of speakers, among which were archaeologists, biologists, art historians, and speleologists who highlighted various issues on the iconography and symbolism of water; the symbolism of caves and the aquatic underworld; Pre/Columbian Mayan archaeology; and environmental conservation issues on aquatic and coastal-marine ecosystems.
 
Speakers included Nicholas Hellmuth of FLAAR Mesoamerica; Juan Manuel Perez and Paulina Garzaro of the Association of Marine Biology (ABIMA); Horacio Martinez, of the University of San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) and on behalf of the Cancuén Archaeological Project; Claudio Gonzalez and Ana Giró of the Mesoamerican Reef Fund (MARFUND); Julio Cotom USAC and the Northern Petén-Naachtún Archaeological Project; Jenny Guerra of the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala; José Octavio Cajas Castillo of the Guatemalan Association of Mammalogy; and Cave and Subaquatic Archaeologist Guillermo de Anda, National Geographic Explorer (UNAM, Yucatan, Mexico).
